Fresh Vegetables!
Many of us buy our vegetables from supermarkets. But growing your own vegetables beats buying them any day. I mean, you know exactly where they come from and what nutrients were used to grow them! As you already may well know, there are many vegetables that you can grow, and there are some vegetable gardening tips that can help make the most out of your garden.
First step is to choose your vegetable plot. The chosen section of the garden should receive at least 6 hours of sunlight. The more sunlight that your plants receive, the healthier your vegies will be. But also make sure it is in harmony with the rest of your garden layout.
Make sure you use a nutrient-rich, sandy loam type of soil when you start to plant .Add compost or manure to enrichen the soil even more. You will need to place the compost underneath and around your vegetables as well.
To take full advantage of the sunlight, plant your vegetables in rows that face north and south. Make sure your vegetable garden is on level ground and there's wide spacing between the rows. This spacing will not only help with the harvesting but also when you need to weed around your veggies.
New and fresh seeds must be sown into the soil. The reason for this is that older seeds will not germinate fully, and your first crop will most likely fail or be malformed. You can also plant transplants in your vegetable garden as well. While the seedlings are growing, the transplants will give you some fresh vegetables early.
Once you have a list of the vegetables and herbs you want to plant , go to a gardening center and select your baby plants and fresh seeds. If you're a first time vegetable gardener, make sure you get well informed with some vegetable gardening tips from the experts there. Ask a lot of questions. They will advise you on how to plant your new vegetable garden. For example, tomato gardening requires a few tricks when planting.
You can also plant your vegetables in some raised beds as well. Another way to maximize your vegetable crop is to plant different yet complementary plants next to each other. This way you have lots of different vegetables to harvest for your table.
Have one plot near your home so you can have ready access to a handful of your favorite vegetables. Plant another bigger vegetable plot a little further away. This is a handy vegetable gardening tip that allows you to have lots of vegetables to choose from, and also allows you the luxury of fresh vegetables even on a rainy day.
